From Amateur Gardening Magazine:
Consumer editor Julia Heaton looks at tools designed to keep topiary plants in shape. All the tools on test are used one handed - the Japanese scissor - action model and Darlac's pivot design requiring less effort than the tensioned steel tools based on traditional sheep shears, which are designed for soft new growth only. So, for the purpose of our tests, new growth on privet, box, Lonicera nitida and grass were worked on.
"Features Designed with a pivot and spring, the SK5 high carbon steel blades can be sharpened and replaced. Has red textured grip handles and a sliding safety catch that acts as a buffer. Also includes a sturdy blade tip cover. Blade length: 61/2in (16.5cm), overall length: 131/2in (34cm).
Performance Impressive shears for both large and small hands due to easy spring action and close set handles. Proved comfortable during prolonged use thanks to the buffer and rudderised grip. Super sharp, large blades made short work of trimming privet and box hedging and the flat profile helped make a level cut. The easy locking catch could be operated with one hand.
Value Not a bad price for such an excellent, efficient tool, ideal for garden topiary and trimming jobs around the garden."
